Los Angeles Clinical Supervision & Business Consultation

clinical supervision, consultation, & business coaching for therapists

At Kindman & Co. we’re therapists who are human first. We’ve gone to graduate school, job searched, been supervised, and lived the (ongoing!) process of developing our professional identities. We have experience growing both individual and group practices that are values-driven and support our own humanity, transparency, and vulnerability; practices that are sustainable, equitable, and attract the clients we really want to work with. Click to skip to clinical supervision or business consultation for therapists.

We know that being a therapist can be hard and messy and that it can trigger our own, human stuff. We think that supervision is an integral part of supporting the growth and development of new therapists, and we’re always excited to see folx step into their own authenticity in the therapy room. We’re not “blank slates” and we don’t think our supervisees should be either.

We’ve got experience working in lots of different clinical settings ourselves, including community mental health, addiction recovery, and private practice, and have been supervising trainees and associates for 5 years. Kaitlin & Paul Kindman have a particular interest in couples’ therapy, and are PACT Level II trained. We’re also experienced in navigating identity and intersectionality with clients who experience oppression, and work to strengthen our supervisees preparedness for and confidence in practicing anti-racist and anti-oppressive clinical work.

We believe in the power of connection and relationship not just with our clients, but also with our supervisees. This relational approach, along with our feminist, inclusive, and social justice values, helps us create a supervisory space where:

  • We talk about the impact of power, oppression, identity, cultural narratives, environment, and context in both clinical and supervisory relationships.

  • We model transparency and vulnerability in clinical work and support new therapists to embrace their own vulnerability.

  • We can be honest about anxiety, imposter syndrome, and other struggles faced by new therapists.

  • We get curious, and think about new ways to conceptualize your clients.

  • We value and think about embodiment, somatic integration, and holistic wellness.

  • We are able to laugh and experience levity.

  • We can openly discuss the interests of our supervisees, and support them in their own individualized learning and development.

  • We can all be real, messy people, working collaboratively to take risks, ask questions, and feel big feelings.

If you’re a California registered AMFT, ASW, or APCC working toward your independent licensure hours, we’d love to chat about our clinical supervision offerings. We’re also a growing practice, so if you’re resonating with our approach and are interested in joining our team, check out our hiring page. If we’re not currently hiring, we encourage you to join our mailing list and follow us on Instagram or Facebook to be the first to know about new job opportunities!

private therapy practice business consulting

As much as our training prepared us to be therapists, it did not teach us how to be business owners or marketing strategists! We’ve learned through our own experience that building a thriving private practice is SO much more than clinical work and consultation. It’s marketing, social media management, website pages, building networks, branding, fee setting, getting clients, managing expenses, and more. It’s thinking creatively and strategically, and clarifying your own values and goals.

Why do more work researching and comparing the best options to support your practice growth and development when we’ve already done a lot of that work for you? We’ve learned a ton through the process of building and growing our values-aligned practice (and making mistakes!), and we want to share our knowledge and resources with you.

Our practice consultation services are designed to help you master the business of therapy. We want you to have more work/life balance, see more clients that excite you, and connect with more joy in your life while worrying less about referrals, SEO, and bottom lines.

We’re also feminist therapists, and believe strongly in making all aspects of therapy more inclusive and social-justice informed—even the business side. Whether it’s updating old intake forms, deciding to be paneled with insurance, developing a fair and sustainable pay scale for your team members, or thinking through how to make your services more equitable and accessible, we’re here to help you lean into more radical and inventive business structures.

We have consultation offerings to support owners of both individual (solo) and group practices. We have also launched a Private Practice for Beginners Group to support those who are preparing to launch or have started a therapy practice within the last three years.

“business consulting has been deeply relieving for me. grad school, training sites, and the overall field of mental health & wellness does not set you up for financial security or success. Kaitlin is helping me to be creative and enterprising about my passions, and offering guidance i would otherwise never receive”

Consulting for individual practices

We want to support you in building the structures and supports you need, so that you can focus on doing clinical work with the clients you love. This might include:

  • Articulating your own values and practice goals.

  • Establishing consistent values-forward branding so that you attract your ideal clients.

  • Managing social media accounts.

  • Examining your relationship to finances, fee-setting, and professional self-worth and build a practice that sustains you.

  • Developing creative strategies for marketing to increase your caseload.

  • Streamlining the referral process.

  • Build structures and supports to offload tasks you aren’t engaged in and get to focus on being a therapist

Whatever that tedious non-feelings-related thing is that you’ve been avoiding, we can help you start to more confidently address it and have some help with accountability along the way!

Consulting for group practices

As owners of a group practice ourselves, we know that structure and support are key to growing a business. We can assist you in:

  • Clarifying your values and mission.

  • Building your ideal practice culture.

  • Setting goals for growth and sustainability.

  • Hiring and retaining your ideal, values-aligned employees, ensuring proper supervisory structures, labor law compliance, and navigating the challenges of managing other humans.

  • Budgeting & increasing your take-home pay.

  • Delegating all the stuff for which you don’t have any time or energy.

  • Providing a space to help you be accountable to implementing more sustainable practices.

  • Building systems that foster work/life balance and will support the business to run while you’re focusing on enjoying your life.

If there’s something that’s been holding you back from growth, we are here to support you in boldly and confidently pursuing that next step.
