Our Los Angeles Client Profile
inclusive therapy for diverse individuals, couples, relationships, & families in highland park, los angeles
At Kindman & Co., we welcome all kinds of people. Our therapy approach is all about inclusion, connection, self-discovery, and embracing authenticity. When we know and embrace ourselves fully, we are more likely to embrace difference & complexity, build thriving relationships, and advocate for others. Let’s work together to build a community where everyone is celebrated—and let’s start with you. Learn about some of the people and communities we serve and the concerns we work with below.
LGBTQIA+ therapy
Members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community experience disproportionate levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Our society tells people who aren’t cis or hetero that they are “other” or even “broken.” Working within a traditional therapy setting can often leave LGBTQIA+ folks feeling their differences more profoundly or feeling out of place. When you work with clinicians who understand and affirm who you are, you can start to create space to be more your true self and advocate for your needs, and those of your community.
intimate partners & couples
We work with romantic relationships at all stages and structures, including premarital counseling, long-term partners and marriages, polyamory & non monogamy, and co-parents. We know how hard it is to create a strong, joyful partnership-humans are pretty complex creatures! We support partners to deepen their intimacy, learn to quickly and effectively resolve conflict, develop communication to better meet each others’ needs, establish essential boundaries, and navigate impasses and betrayals. We frequently work with partners in intercultural and interracial relationships to help bridge cultural differences and facilitate deeper understanding. Let us help you access more compassion in your relationship, feel more relationship security, and start to truly enjoy each other.
people grappling with grief & loss
Loss can be one of the most intense and transformative experiences we encounter in life. Whether loss in the context of death and dying, or the loss of a relationship, job, or sense of purpose—experiencing loss can change the way you think, feel, and relate to others. For many, feelings of grief caused by loss are some of the biggest and most overwhelming, often leading to loneliness or isolation. Despite this, our culture has provided few templates for how and when to grieve and has even cultivated shame around larger, more visible processes of grief. Loss is an unavoidable part of being human, and you do not have to feel it alone. We can support you in experiencing grief, processing loss, and making new meaning to begin to feel alive again.
highly sensitive people (HSPs) & empaths
You feel things in a big way and carry others’ emotional burdens with them. Maybe you’ve been told you are “too emotional” or “too sensitive?” If so, you might be experiencing the tenderness of an empath or a highly sensitive person (HSP). People who are highly sensitive often feel misunderstood or out of place, and their sensitivity may be identified only as a problem that needs fixing. Therapy for empaths and highly sensitive people will help you embrace sensitivity as a strength and start to better manage overwhelm, feel in control of your emotions, set healthy boundaries, and get more of what you’re wanting from your relationships!
individuals navigating life transitions or crises
If there’s one thing you can count on in life – it’s that change is bound to happen, but this doesn’t mean that change comes easy. In fact, transitions in life can be really hard on you emotionally, mentally, and physically. If you’re moving into a new stage in your life, you may be experiencing grief over things or relationships that you’re losing. You may feel anxious or worried about the decisions you made that brought you here; if you didn’t choose the change, you may feel out of control and powerless. Whatever your specific situation, navigating new phases of life requires support, connection, and resilience. We’re here to make it a little easier by helping you process through complex feelings, connecting with your strengths, and finding empowerment amongst the transition.
therapy for creatives, artists & entertainers
The odds are good if you’re a creative or an artist, someone has said this to you, “You see the world so differently. I just don’t understand where you’re coming from.” Your parents, family members, friends, and even peers just don’t “get” you. They don’t think your creative endeavors count as work. They don’t think you have a right to feel drained or struggle because “you’re not really doing anything.” Does any of this sound familiar? We know what it’s like to feel like others are judging you, but we also know how healing it can be to find someone who finally sees you for who you are and can help you feel valued and accepted.
therapy for therapists & healing professionals
Helping people heal and grow every day is an exceptionally rewarding career, but it is also painful and exhausting to see others who are struggling and can be difficult to leave work at work. Plus, we navigate heartbreak, anxiety, relationship/family stress, trauma, and other life hardships, too! Trust us. We get it. We have always made providing therapy for other therapists and helpers a priority in our practice; we know how essential it is to have someone who really gets it to support you at the end of those long, hard days, as well as someone to celebrate your successes with. This is hard work; don’t do it alone!
millennial therapy
Millennials get a hard time for being the “ME Generation.” In reality, growing up using technology, you have had unparalleled access to information that has shaped your identity & political, social, and cultural attitudes. Thus, Millennials tend to value transparency, authenticity, creativity, social justice, and increased well-being. It also means there’s a lot to worry about socioculturally and many opportunities to feel unseen, disrespected, or misunderstood. If you’re a millennial discovering your purpose and dealing with the stresses of #Adulting in our current climate—building a career, economic instability, insurmountable student loan debt, worries about the climate crisis, intersectional identities & expression, and the changing face of familial and cultural norms. We can help.
support for teens & young adults
The adolescent and early adult years are tough. For many, this is when you navigate first love, get your first job, learn to live on your own for the first time, and start making big decisions that will impact the rest of your life—college, job training, who you’re friends with, etc. This is also when you start to explore who you really are, what you stand for, and what matters to you. With all that these years bring, it’s no surprise that many teens and young adults find themselves dealing with high levels of anxiety and stress! Let us help you take a breath, develop skills for dealing with big life changes & emotions, build confidence in yourself, and support you to discover and embrace all parts of you.
