Life has a way of throwing challenges our way, but music has the power to push us forward, even when the road gets tough. Whether you're chasing a dream, bouncing back from a setback, or just trying to make it through the day, the right song can be the fuel you need to keep moving.

This list of song suggestions is filled with anthems of resilience, perseverance, and hope—songs that remind us to stand tall, push forward, and never give up. So turn up the volume, take a deep breath, and let the music carry you through.

Let’s keep on keeping on

My Day Will Come - James Francies, Yebba

I just love Yebba’s voice! I wasn’t raised in the church, but so many singers that I feel touched by started out singing in church choirs. The lyrics of this song are inspiring and hopeful, even when you feel like you’ve lost everything, but for me, this song is about the motion of the Francies’ piano and the almost reckless abandon Yebba brings to her singing. Sometimes amazing things can happen when giving up some control. -Steve

You’ll Never Walk Alone - Brittany Howard

Sometimes it feels like you’re all alone and it’s a good reminder that there’s likely someone there with you, or even held in your heart. The refrain “walk on” throughout the song is just sometimes what it feels like when you’ve got to keep going one step at a time. Plus, Brittany Howard’s soulful voice just makes me feel inspired. -Steve

Climbing Higher Mountains - Aretha Franklin

The metaphor of life feeling like a mountain climb has always resonated with me. Sometimes there’s an awesome view, but sometimes it feels like a painful slog. Either way, Aretha Franklin and the gospel choir always move me to feel like it’s worth it to keep going. - Steve

Lucky - Tish Hyman, LaRussell, Leon Thomas

I first heard this song on social media when I was going through a rough year. I distinctly remember the simplicity of the first several lines evoking a visceral feeling - the hairs on my arms stood up, and I was washed over with hope. I still like to put this song on, especially on mornings that start a little too early or days that feel stressful or grief, to remind myself of the many things I have to be grateful for.

I’m Still Standing - Elton John

I’ve always loved Elton and I feel his music in my body. This song sends a pretty straightforward message and makes me feel connected to my strength and resilience.

Color Esperanza - Diego Torres

I was introduced to this song while participating in a jam session with nuns about a third of the way through a roughly 500-mile pilgrimage in Spain. The music and lyrics perfectly captured both the daily struggle of keeping on and the hope, courage, and self-belief needed to keep on keeping on.

Fearless - Pink Floyd

As an expert procrastinator and recovering perfectionist, I used to (and sometimes still do) find myself stuck at the bottom of hills “too steep to climb” and waiting “a while for the right day”. The story this song tells taught me the lesson that “everyday is the right day” and sometimes keeping on just takes that next step.

Rise Up - Andra Day

This isn’t quite a pump me up song, but I find it to be very inspirational when i’m feeling defeated by everything going on in the world.  This helps remind me of my purpose in helping myself and others to find our leadership and take action and the need to be with others in our fight. Plus, her voice is amazing and it just really hits me in the feels. Paul and I actually had our wedding party walk down the aisle to this song! -Kaitlin

Dancing in the Dark (cover) - Hot Chip

This is one of my favorite songs to dance around to and get the stress out! I love to just let my arms float up and shake it out!! This song also brings back fun memories of dancing it out to Hot Chip at music festivals which helps me feel a bit lighter. - Kaitlin

Dancing On My Own - Robyn

I guess I just really like the songs about dancing…One of my favorite pump-me-up jams! This song is pretty contagious when you put it on with other people in the room–it just makes my body move and I can’t help but shout the lyrics. This song gives me strength! If you’re feeling something a bit moodier, I also like the Callum Scott (Tiësto remix) - Kaitlin

Get Motivated ft. jstlbby- LoMalo, jstlbby

I’ve followed jstlbby or Amber Wagner for a few years and always loved her spirit, her tidbits of inspiration, and he fabulous nails! This mix has the classic 90’s Crystal Waters sample and one of jstlbby’s best encouragements to get into it, whatever your “it” might be. The mix is infectious and reminds me that I have shine to share!

Blessings- Theresa Phondo, Sal Ly, Noel Mio

I listen to this song to connect with the blessings I do have and attract blessings that I’m in need of. The beat feels like gratitude and can change my perspective to a more hopeful one when I’m feeling out of touch.

I’m Every Woman - Cover by Whitney Houston

Obviously, Chaka Khan the original queen! The Whitney cover of this song just hits my spirit different and I can’t feel anything other than powerful and embodied when I sing along.

Good Vibes - Ayah The Light

I put this song on to be calm, and cool and channel my own good vibes. It’s a smooth, relaxing beat that makes me feel I deserve all the good in the world.
